butterflydreaming: "Cris", in blocks with a blinking cat (Four Sleepers)

The last time I had held a controller, it had a lot less buttons. [livejournal.com profile] omnifarious sat me down in front of Katamari Damacy this morning. (I kept thinking, I hope [livejournal.com profile] spazzychic doesn't get mad for not getting to me first.) As expected, I'm pretty terrible.

Later today I went out in the bold sunshine to Alki, where [livejournal.com profile] divinityof_fire and I peered around an Indian cultural festival. We then got some dinner and headed up the hill to see The Lady in the Water. I meant to see it weeks ago, but somehow... . I love Shyamalan. His earlier movies were stronger films in terms of mainstream appeal, but I *liked* Signs and The Village, and I liked this one, too. His storytelling style appeals to me. I think he fills his movies with strong actors who get to play characters that they enjoy.

Before the movie, we wandered around Metropolitan Market for a bit and admired the cheeses. Mmm, cheese. The variety makes me want to throw a party.

Katamari Damacy is just a bit odd when it comes to controls. Both in the sense that it requires both thumbsticks (tank control), and that it only requires both thumbsticks. (The Look button and Select Stuff buttons are just extras.)

I'm not sure, but I suspect the PS2 and XBox actually have the most buttons for consoles. (Twelve buttons. PS2: four right-thumb buttons, four shoulder buttons, two thumbstick buttons, and the Start/Select pair. XBox: four right-thumb buttons, two shoulder "trigger" buttons, two thumbstick buttons, two Black/White buttons, and the Start/Select pair. Add in one extra each if you count the D-Pad.)

I love playing Katamari Damacy, if only for the sense of "what did I just pick up?" (And the music. Can't forget the music.)

that's it! Katamari Damacy is an Ender's Game-style program to raise the next generation of armored cavalry.

I haven't seen The Village yet (I really should rent it someday), but I liked Sixth Sense and Signs, so I wanted to see this one too. I wonder when they'll show it here, though...

I do not know of this Katamari Damacy of whick you speak. I would much rathere speak of cheeses. Did you know I live just down the street from Metropolitan Market?

Fancy a coffee sometime soon?

(Love that icon) Coffee? Absolutely. When?

You don't live down the street from the mmm in Admiral District. Nevertheless, yours must also have those adorable, tiny fresh mozzarella spheres marinated in herbs & oil. So many good cheeses. So many varieties of brie and chevre. I like the ones that are rolled in things, like herbs or walnuts. With Carrs crackers or some good European style bread, perhaps a glass of fermented fruit, honey, or grain.

The one down the street used to be Queen Anne Thriftway, before the great name change.

How about this afternoon? I know this place up the street from me that has nice coffee, and very comfy leather couches. They often have good Jazz or Blues on weekend afternoons and evenings. If you drive, fancy a drive south? Or would you rather I meet you at some place closer to your home?

Give me a call. Contact info is in my memories.

Lol. Since I lack a playstation, a television, and a copy of the game at the moment, I am glad someone got you :)

india-indian, or not-so-india-indian? what was it like?

India-Indian. I felt that it was for a religious holiday. There were many booths that had dioramas set up -- a doll festival arrangement, a series of human figures representing a man from infancy through old age -- and few booths with crafts or food. (The food was free, but not set up while we were there.) There was a informational maze explaining reincarnation and vegetarianism. There were lots of cute little kids in fancy dress.

I think it was going to become more lively in the later evening. I didn't see any music or dancing set up but had the feeling that there might be some, later.
