I was in a mood, so I put my ancient story "Oreads & Other Nymphs" on Wattpad after I uploaded the last half of EoC.

This stupid keyboard doesn't have the mark up characters to make a link as text.

I had a plot bunny -- more of a vignette bunny -- hop up yesterday while I was prodding at the "tea cozy" rewrite/edit. I wrote in the late evening for hours, long past my usual bedtime. D was asleep before I was! Today I sat down and wrote the rest. It felt amazing.

The story is more my usual thing, edgy, noir-ish, and tragic. It's still freshly minted, so it probably needs quite a bit of work, but here it is if you want to take a look-see. I haven't even run it through spell-check.

It took the longest time to get the cozy mystery short story to the current state of done. Now I can impose on a few victims friends to rate the degree of suck.

In all honesty, I don't think it sucks. I think that I would enjoy it, if I came across such a story.

Anyone else want to give it a read?

From now on, coffee first, then invocation. I was just happy to be home, finally home, listening to the microwave humming heat at a mug of water. If I had waited for the Taster’s Choice, I would have been thinking clearly, but right then that bowl of cereal looked like the best thing since creation.

Pink hearts, orange stars, blue diamonds... you get the idea... are small, sugary, full of mischief and artificial coloring. Marshmallow moves fast. Bill had replaced the window screens as he said he would, but I’m still mad at him because we were out of milk.

It's Mabon. As the sun sets and the air chills, the modest fire becomes even more welcoming. As the sun's light weakens, streaking the clouded sky with pinks against blues, the light of the flames grow in strength. Your faces look calm and happy, even as it is becoming more difficult to see the details of your expressions. All of our voices have fallen, with the last of the sunset: conversation in low tones. It's such a small fire. Another time, we would stack the wood as a feast for the flames, and we would feel our skins near to burning from the blazing pile. In winter, we will do this to warm the memory of summer.

Now we are quiet, excited but subdued. The air smells wonderful; the cold feels good. The soft crackle and crunch in the metal pit sounds a satisfying harmony with the saltwater unrolling onto the sand. Rock and fire, wood and water, and the soft shore breeze blowing the hair of silhouettes.

We won't see stars tonight. There are too many clouds.

I miss [livejournal.com profile] shiro_no_wired. I almost forgot that autumn began today. Thank you each for the reminders, R and M.

I have a lot of notebooks with bits of writing. While looking for one that I could use for my NaNo outline, I came across several abandoned poems -- most of which need a lot of work, two of which provoked a strong emotional response -- and this writing snippet:

Cigarette smokes wafts over the dirty sidewalk; it's a sharp scent in the cold air. She watched the city grow closer from the plane's window as the flight path curved over where she lived and southward to the airport, and now she is here, again without wings, her perspective returned to a ground's level view.

She is dressed exactly as she left. She is home, but she is not happy to be home. She doesn't miss the place she left. She feels the cold air and smells the cigarette smoke and she thinks,

Fanfiction for this serial. I don't think it's necessary to know the canon, but I've been enjoying the read. Spoilers for the whole thing, some angel angst. As is typical for me, all about minor characters, some of whom are already dead according to the canon.
Length: a bunch of words (around 1.6K)
Genre: 100% romance
Rating: PG

I suspect that this causes me more amusement than it will you. I didn't change all the pronouns, just the ones for character A. I sort of missed the spirit of the Mad Lib because it's not humor. Did you really expect funny?
