First let me get this out of the way:

Don't send flowers on the day before Valentine's Day just because it's cheaper than on the 14th.

And now...

Highlight the area below to read it. ^_^

I saw this method used, just now, on one of my communities. (Will it work? Is it working?) The commentor wanted to hide spoiler information.

Maybe I'll start hiding secret messages in here for some of you... . Hee-hee.

And... good news! The car insurance money comes next week, and the number is much much bigger than I thought it would be! It has a comma! {sits on hands to avoid going on a spree}

Well, for default users, it should work well enough.

However, some people view other people's comments pages in their own journal style for whatever reason ("xxxx.html?style=mine"). If their backgrounds are dark, then the text shows up as, well, white text.

Still, I think that's only a vanishingly small minority. Besides, it's much easier to just highlight anyway.

^^ It's neat!

Yay for car insurance money! I thought that the kid wanted to keep the insurance company out of it? *may be remembering wrong*

that would include me

for whatever reason ("xxxx.html?style=mine")
it was like that when i got here? i don't recall ever setting things that way - it just sorta happened.

If their backgrounds are dark
mine isn't, but i'd still notice something

Yaye car insurance!

Cut spoilers/"sensitive" material, don't make it white. Some people have bgs which will expose it.

It's working. I think as long as it's placed under an LJ-cut it should work for all viewers regardless of their custom LJ styles.

Nice to meet you!

What if it's LJ-cut?

Under customizing (presentation, I think), there is the option to use the "old LJ comment style", and that would/should make the comment area white.

He did, but then my best friend advised me to use the ins. companies anyway. And when I called in the claim, *they* had already called in the claim. So I bet his dad said the same thing.

Is there a better color to use?

LJ-cut page is comments page.

What I meant is that someone may well use the "?style=mine" trick, intentionally or otherwise, if they don't have "old LJ comment style" set. But again, that's a very small matter.

the thing is, different people will/may have different colours set, and you can't set it to display different colours for different people... so if this is the lemon juice effect you're looking for, white is the best bet, but still not a perfect solution. (no perfect solution exists on this one)
