Return of the Jedi premiered 30 years ago: May 25, 1983. Yeah. Kyle Newman's documentary is a delight. It took me right back to the excitement of seeing it on opening day (we never saw movies on opening day) and squeeing about it the next day in assembly to my dude friends. I got geek cred for having seen it before them.

Another emotion inducing item of today is the announcement of Kindle Worlds. In their words:

Get ready for Kindle Worlds, a place for you to publish fan fiction inspired by popular books, shows, movies, comics, music, and games. With Kindle Worlds, you can write new stories based on featured Worlds, engage an audience of readers, and earn royalties. Amazon Publishing has secured licenses from Warner Bros. Television Group's Alloy Entertainment for Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and The Vampire Diaries, with licenses for more Worlds on the way.

The comments over at John Scalzi's blog pretty much cover all that needs to be said. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of the "Pretty Little Liars" fandom communities today! (No, not actually.)

And while I've brought up fanfiction, I should probably explain my stance on the Mary Sue character played by blonde beauty Alice Eve. (I apologize, if I spoiled anyone with that earlier update.) But it will be full of spoilers, so I want to wait at least until a few more people get a chance to see Star Trek: Into Darkness. I'm considering a "fix it" fanfic rather seriously. It would be one of those "five things that never happened to..." things.

Can I just say -- I should not have looked -- that the reboot fics on AO3 are frightening? Yikes! The fics in Cardcaptor Sakura are some of the better quality fics. Star Trek (2009)? Based on summaries, I don't want to find out if the execution is good or not. I'm not reading those!
