Hyperbole & a Half updated less than a day ago (this morning, it looks like) and the comments have already maxed out, at five thousand comments. She hit is spot on for me with the corn. I started laughing and kept laughing from there on. The corn does not have to be explained. The corn is understood. Really, comments should be made to cost $1. Allie would be richer by five grand right now, all in one day.

I'm so happy she's back and I loved her post. She has a book deal, though, and a legion of fans. She's going to be fine financially speaking.

She does have legions of loyal fans, and I hope a lot of them have the ability to use that Paypal button that's buried somewhere on her blog. Meds are not cheap. The book has been in the works for over a year, but her depression knocked her flat, and there has not been the kind of progress that publishers are likely to put up with. (I can't remember if the book was crowdfunded or not.) One book isn't going to put her on Easy Street. She doesn't have any ads on the site, which would be another way to make money from the site traffic.

Mostly, I'd like her to have a buck for every comment because that's a lot of comments to read!

I liked the dead fish analogy. I hope her upswing continues, and then levels out and stays more or less level. Or at least doesn't plummet back to catacombs again.

I do, too. Even though she is very public about her depression, and has a strong fan following, she is still an individual who has to manage her own health. She is so open and sincere with Hyperbole and a Half that it can create a false sense of connection to her, some kind of connection that can make a difference.
