I'm procrastinating. I have time to do some fiction writing, but I'm procrastinating. I'm also overdue on my write up for my spa service, the "homework" we do for our quarterly free service.
The CocoShea Wrap is one of the house specialty services, and like our mud wrap, it was so much more than I anticipated. I did have a honey-salt exfoliating scrub first, which was kind of a prefunk since the scrubs finish with a moisturizer. It was nice to go into the wrap feeling like a new penny.
The wrap is done in a massage (dry) room, but like the wet services (i.e. scrubs) the draping is towel draping, allowing for lots of skin exposure, as opposed to the cozy-coverage of sheet draping that is done for massages. Tyrone, our head aesthetician, was my service provider. Ty is an elf, with lots of strength in his small hands, as if concentrated. All of our massage therapists are excellent, but Tyrone is one of those people who will massage your arm or hand or shoulder when he stops by the front desk to check on something, and those 30 second massages are examples of his ability to pinpoint the spots that need help.
The moisturizer for the wrap is a heated combination of coconut oil and shea butter. Tyrone applied this to my back and worked it in with a massage that paid attention to my spine, manipulating tissue and muscles. This ultra-luxurious relaxing massage, with my skin soaking up the warmed oil mixture, continued for the rest of my back and front, and then I was cocooned up in layers of towel, blanket, and crinkly vinyl wrapping.
The cocooning was finished off with Olive Branch facial moisturizer and a surprising ice towel wrap over my eyes and around my head and neck, creating an unexpected cold-warm contrast. While this worked its magic, Tyrone massaged my shoulder and neck, problem areas for me because I spend so much time at desk & keyboard.
Before the ice melted away completely, he unwound the still-cool towels at my head, and then let me come out of my cocoon, back into the world with my skin feeling renewed.
I honestly think the CocoShea Wrap is the best value of the services we offer, since it costs almost the same as a massage, but includes the facial toning elements and the deep moisturizing. I would strongly recommend it to someone who was looking for a luxurious massage, particularly in the winter, when skin tends to be very dry.
