Phanfic Never Dies

In the late 80s, when I was intensely fangirling The Phantom of the Opera, my (still) BFF instigated a collaborative story, by which we brought a happily romantic ending to the Phantom's tragic story. This was not my first fanfic, but nearly, and of course I did not know terms like fanfiction, OC (original character), Continuation, and Fix-It. E was a better writer than me, with previous experience writing for & with others, and yet her OC Pauline -- who is a delight -- is an author-self-insertion, while my OC Madeleine is neither me nor a Mary Sue.
We wrote a novel. I kept trying to end it. She kept adding marriage and baby chapters. I secretly started a sequel a few years later, about their son Gabriel, a sad toned thing about growing old and letting your children grow up. It's all OCs, and it's unfinished (likely to remain so).
In 1998 (I forgot this existed) I revised it, writing in new scenes, patching the prose of a 17 year old with the prose of a 27 year old. Tonight, I was looking for theLove Never Dies fic that I started/abandoned a couple of years ago, which I still haven't found (I'm sure it's in a spiral bound notebook but sure =/= correct), which is how I found the '98 edit. The added scenes pass muster.
I still didn't know yet that fanfic was a thing. (I didn't usually write down those kinds of stories.) The zines I knew about had poetry, comics, and art. I wasn't online until 2003.
And all of this is because I love my OCs. I have wanted to put Madeleine into the LND canon for some time, just a mention of baby sister Madeleine. Could she have been left back home with one of the great aunts? So I thought, maybe I'll do that in the unfinished "Romantic Idiots." It fits well enough. Whether or not Gustave is Erik's son, Madeleine is unquestionably Raoul's daughter.
How messed up is it to have the younger half-sister (same mom)paired with her brother's bio dad? LOL
Yet, I'm sort of smitten by the inclusion of the older brother into that 1988 fanfic. Madeleine would idolize Gustave, the one who got all the talent and good looks and mother's love. That Gustave is a lot like his nephew (and half brother we wonder?) Gabriel.
I'm pretty much just amusing myself, here. There's a reason all of this phanfic is only on paper. Sometimes in pencil. (The digital file of the typed up fic novel is certainly lost to time.)

The "unfinished Romantic Idiots" is the story I pinched the plot twist about Erik's sexual ineptitude from for the purposes of "All the Rules Rearranged", right? ;-D
