of the common, small pills you don't put to the test
When being sensible and careful, in any case.

Each day turns the dial another click:
circles and cycles that go on and on
like revolutions of the greater Wheel
whose inexorable progress they mimic.

Take the placebo to follow through.
Don't doubt the task; don't be sad today
a feeling as false as that pill is, anyway,
spun up in the stirring of hormone stew.
