Little girls love horses

butterflydreamingThe K'Nex Ferris wheel drew us in to Top Ten Toys at the mall yesterday. It's a much deeper shop than it appears to be from the outside, and we spent about an hour wandering through it.
Among other cool things they have some figures with great detail, in the shapes of tiger headed warriors and badass maidens with parasols. Like so many things, made in China, sadly. D modeled a red Amanita mushroom hat. I picked up and strongly considered the "magic diary" with the cover art from Magic Hoofbeats, mostly for the little birds on the back that remined me of the art for Maria Doria Russel's The Sparrow, less for the Hermione Granger-ish girl riding the horse. I think I will get the book instead, though.
A girl walking through with her adult woman caretaker (probably mom, but not identified as such) declared that she had an obsession. Possible-mom didn't seem to like the word "obsession" much, and reluctantly agreed. "A passion," the little girl amended after a while. "I have a passion for horses."
Something is right with the world when little girls still love horses.
In exchange for the hour of entertainment, I ended up buying something to keep me amused at work: a frog shaped calculator.
