Ice Cream Days

On these days when the sun illuminates Seattle and we call the day warm, the ice cream and gelato places swirl with activity. After the Cherry Blossom festival on Saturday, I stopped at Gelatiamo with
queenpasiphae and
divinityof_fire and was happy to see that among their Euro flavors they had the stracci-something that
shadowquill mentioned a few posts ago. I ordered that and chocolate, a deep dark yet creamy chocolate. Divine. L had hazelnut and rice, while Pas selected lemon and -- ? So, yum.
I stopped at Husky Deli on the way home today. They were busy with ice cream orders. I don't think the brief presence of the Ben & Jerry's shop in the Junction hurt them at all. After all, why would anyone want someone else's ice cream? (Unless they were in a hurry. Husky Deli is not the fastest.) If you haven't tasted the stoute-style ice cream that they make for Elliott Bay Brewery (using EBB's beer), you need to make a point of visiting West Seattle in the near future.
I've discovered that when I don't update often, it becomes difficult to post anything because I feel the need to "catch up". That's pretty much never going to happen. I'm only ever caught up with reading my f'list. Over the weekend, I liberated myself of my 1000 origami cranes. I gave them to the origami club at the Cherry Blossom festival; to my embarrassment, the woman I spoke with said that they would send them to Nagasaki. That really doesn't seem right to me. I thought about Sadako Sasaki a few times during the process, but my reasons for folding 1000 cranes were selfish from the beginning and had nothing to do with world peace, only my own peace.
My hand felt empty when I walked away. I folded four more before I left Seattle Center, and eight this morning on the bus. It is comforting and soothing, though I don't need the in-hand comfort now so much. I don't know if I'll do another senbazuru. If I do, I'll take them to Peace Park. I joked to L that I should fold 1000 rockets, for the progress of space exploration. I can only do 3 models from memory: crane, rocket, and ninja star. I might practice snails.
Saturday night I met up with
ironymaiden and C at the Tractor Tavern for the Clumsy Lovers. Thanks to i and C's kind offer of the futon, I got to stay for the whole show, then have yummy breakfast at Vera's on Sunday morning. Buses on Sunday are... not so good. By the time I ran some errand and got home, I was already too late to turn around and catch the first of two buses to get me to the U District to meet
varina8 for a preview of The Promise. Argh. One of my errands was buying my new digital camera, my rather expensive self-birthday-gift. It's a Nikon with all kinds of clever tricks. Like any cat-oriented person, my first photo subjects were my cats.
Sunday night I visited Ladro where I used to work, and since someone I knew was working, he let me make my own drink. I still have my Skilz and that makes me immensely happy. I really do miss making coffee. If you ever know of anyone who needs a barista for an event or function, I'll work cheap. My health permit is current, too. Hell, if you have a nice machine (and a good CD collection, or better yet, vinyl), I'll come to your house. ^_^
I'm thinking of getting a pedicure on Thursday lunch break or more likely Thursday after work. Belltown belles, are any of you interested in being girly with me?
