Sweet Potato Gnocci, and...

Thankful Thursday
1. Plenty of hot water
2. Sweet potato gnocci, which is proof that the gods love us and want us to be happy
3. "Embracing the Mystery" by Charles de Lint is exactly the right length for me to complete (re)reading on my AM commute, if I finish the last paragraph while walking.
4. Self-editing.
5. Little tabs of thin copper that are bookmarks. The one I have has a spade shape, so that I can even point it to the line I'm on.
I know that life is unpredictably short, but must I really cram as much into every hour of it as possible? My dreams have been staying in deep subconscious lately to spare me the stimulous, I think. Work has picked up just enough to keep me off LJ; emails have been quickly read/replied.
I actually can't remember Monday night.
Dinner on Tuesday night was highly enjoyable. We split a bottle of wine and tiramisu cheesecake, and between those two there was steak. (L had skewers of luscious vegetables, grilled and dressed, over savory potato pancakes.) The blackboard featured item was a meal of filet mignon and another cut (NY steak?) as brochettes, on skewers, bathed in a shallot & cheddar cheese butter. Oh. My. The meat was perfectly cooked, tender, and richly flavorful. Portions at Jak's are definitely split-able. A petite cut of sirloin, for example, is 10oz.
Our waitress bore a character resemblance to Joan Cusack.
Last night I didn't have to pay for dinner at Ovio. I was there as the buffer... my recently birthday'd co-worker was being treated to dinner by my just-bought-out boss, and I was invited, too. Ovio is a little beyond my usual means, so this was cool for me.
I ate their Five Spiced Duck, which tasted a lot like really good bbq ribs. It was served with a plum wine sauce and sweet potato gnocci. Heavenly. Best of all, the s.p.g. is orderable as a side dish. I'm seeing a side dish take-home dinner in my future. (Ambience at Ovio is all right. It seems like it would make a good first-date venue, but not an intimate dinner venue. When it gets full & busy, as it often is, it wouldn't be great for conversation, and the seating is bad for groups.)
Today, for the 2nd day in a row, I'm up at "O-stupid-hundred", as L says. Her fault today; she's on the way out to Spokane for the day for a family thing. Yesterday was an effort to wring out a few minutes to myself.
After Sunday, I'm taking a break until at least the end of March. I want to come home after work and stay home. I want to eat simple, even plain, food. I want to have an hour to read in bed before I give up to Morpheus. I'm not complaining. I've been having fun, mostly, but I need to take it down a few notches.
