Nano means small, as novel's unique,
We're half the month through, and my outlook is bleak
It's more nano than novel; I should lay it down
Out on the bare rocks, outside of town
And give it up to the scavenger birds
Cradle death
at under
30,000 words.
"Well, we're tired too," my characters say.
"Stop looking at us," and "Please go away."
And I'm too lazy to force the pace
I'm envious, watching
others give up
this endurance race.
"My story is dull," Mercy pleads,
While under her teeth her first victim bleeds
James only laughs, his sharp blue eyes bright
He's just introduced -- but that isn't right!
The end's in the middle, the middle is first,
Flashbacks in fragments
It's just
getting
worse.
My muse says, "fanfiction" -- she throws me some plots
She's hanging around whether I want her, or not
"A poem," she prods. I cannot defeat her
I try for a sonnet
but choke on
the meter.
So what shall I do? Will I give it up?
I'm drowning my wavering in cup after cup
Triple-shot lattes and rich black coffee
Dawdling on Live Journal
because the Wireless
is free.
After a few hours, my battery runs out.
Yet still I sit, contemplating my doubt
I could now be writing; I know, it's true,
Typing "whatever" just to get through.
It could be done, yes, one way or another
But still I sit, wondering
Why do I bother?
. . .

A change of scene and society may be all you need. Far better than slogging your guts out at the computer and hating every minute. Get some fresh air and come back later.
You can do this!
