I really was surprized to see commentary on it already, and that it was so well received. I don't know... I put a lot into it, but I thought the OC would turn people off.
And speaking of Kinomoto Yuriko...
For the longest time, I had these desire to write in a third child, but Yuriko was going to be a middle child. It was important for her to be older than Sakura since I was going to retell the legend of Iwanaga and Konohana, but I discarded that idea because it was too Mary Sue, and struck me as too similar to the "Dawn" plotline on Buffy.
But Yuriko was still kicking around. The flower I associate with her is a while lily, and to me, white lilies are funeral flowers. White is a death color in the East, too. Which is why her Cards reincarnate pearl-white.
Sakura is loving and kind-hearted, but it wouldn't have taken much to get Yuriko instead, especially without Touya's influence. So the "good" of Nade getting to live gets balanced out by her daughter being too open to evil influences. Clow said that "a great evil" would befall the world once the book was open. Just suppose for a moment that the evil was not the consequence of failed Judgement.
A smart girl, small and insignificant feeling, who thinks that she exists in place of one who should be, or would have been more wanted, would be a bad choice for the power that the Clow Cards present. (If I had been the cardcaptor, I suspect that my path would have been similar to Yuriko's... except that I would have spoiled both of the Guardians rotten.)
This story chilled me through, to write... and it already has a sequel. ("Meeting as if By Chance") A rather embarrassing sequel. (het!) Funny enough, it's also a sequel to "Matters of Chance". As long as I was playing with the idea of Vampire!Yue, I thought I'd bring back Chrys. After all, he'd still be looking for a snack. (If you're interested in such schlock/writer-wish-fulfillment, it will be in my Desk Drawer in a couple of weeks, probably, and I'll put the link here at LJ.)
