5:30 Ante Meridian
Before everyone wakes
I am here
Waiting for the sun to rise
And all is silent.
The world is as cold
As a body entombed
The morning is as dark
As a corpse is cold.
Everyone is sleeping
But me,
And I am waiting for light
To kiss the world awake.
This is the space
In which Creation began
Before the breath of morning
Became the first day
The Flux and the Ether
Of the time before Time.
It is strange and empty
To be here alone
Strange and silent.
