Exercise of the Day: Mountain

nanowrimo. It is 5 minutes of writing based on a word.
The mountain sleeps. Haleakala, on Maui, from which we are supposed to have an amazing view of the sunrise. It is before dawn, and we should be asleep, but instead, I am praying for my sister to stay on the dark road, to catch the curves as we go up the mountain, not to make an error that would plunge us, in our little rental, into dark oblivion.
At the top of the dormant volcano, the sun rises behind thick clouds and drizzle; all we see is hazy light. We stay in the car, but the rain doesn't break. Having to accept that we have missed the spectacular sunrise, we knock back the bucket seats... and sleep.
