butterflydreaming: a few crafts that I made as gifts (Get Excited Make Things)

Hand dyed scarves & glass bead necklace

I find Flickr a lot harder to use, these days. I fight with Picasa, too.

Although I hate my job, I try to embrace the benefits of my lackadasical workplace. I can get away with taking a sick day on short notice, just by sending an email to let people know. Friday morning, I woke up late (after yet another night of poor sleep) and had the if-this-was-my-last-day-alive inspiration not to go spend the next 8 hours at my job. I wanted to do something I actually enjoyed for the day.

I spent the day sitting, anyway: making wire links out of paper clips and some Indian glass beads that I've had for so long, I don't remember what necklace I took apart for them. The necklace is in the photo, on top of two of the three silk scarves I dyed on Thursday.

Saturday, I buzzed through the Urban Craft Uprising summer show, got tired out with the heat, came home and did laundry, clothes and bedding. I've been putting it off for something like two weeks. I dried all of it in the heat and sunshine; all the clothes have that magical scent of summer on them, now. I wished I'd had clothes lines to hang everything from, somewhere where I could have lain under the damp clothes and felt the breeze cooled by them.

I did go down to the little bit of grass (and moss) in the courtyard of my apartment building. It was damp and I saw an earwig wander by, plus no one really uses it and everyone who goes out the side door acts startled when someone is using the yard, so it was difficult to relax.

This morning I woke up when there was almost no morning left. I forgot completely about my need to get cat food. Instead, I finished hand-sewing a dress that used to be a skirt. It's cute. I was nearly done with it when I remembered about the cat food, so I went to the co-op before it got too late.

On the way, I ran into [personal profile] varina8 and had a nice chat!

There's something wonderful about an ice cream sandwich on a hot day.

I got a mountain of food, and I cooked it all (well, not all) because if I was going to use the oven for chicken, then I might as well make that quiche that's been pending, and why not some pasta salad while I'm sweating in the hot kitchen? Meals are done for a couple of days. It's so nice to know what I'm having for lunch *and* tomorrow's dinner!

The other thing I forgot about what the farmers market, so again, I didn't get any yummy tomatoes from the usual place. I did buy some tiny tomatoes at the co-op, I mean, really tiny, and they have all the power of a larger tomato in them. I could have gotten 1 1/4 lbs of scratch-and-dent heirloom tomatoes from the farmers market for the price of the little basket of little tomatoes, though.

In other clothing news, I found a bunch of hot weather clothes that I'd put away. I still don't have the hang of seasonal wear. Anyway, today I really appreciated the miniskirt I'd forgotten existed.
