Hmm. I tend to use a blend of anime-manga or book-movie canon, if and only if I consider the two versions roughly equal in quality (defined as "I like it"). If, however, I deeply prefer one canon to the other, or it's not possible to combine the two (see Lord of the Rings for both problems), I pick the one I like and go with it.
I tend to canon-blend with CCS, since I like both anime and manga. I'll do the same with Narnia, since I really (I mean *really*) liked the new movie, and it can mesh well with the rest of the book series. Lord of the Rings and Rayearth, however, to take two examples, I just can't mesh, or don't want to.
