Another post about the last day of summer
Sep. 22nd, 2012 08:32 pmWhat a strange dread I feel at this summer's ending! It's strange this time because I love the fall. I think it is our most beautiful season. In fall, the light becomes honey colored, brassy, amber, golden. The days fade earlier and earlier, blurring into night. The cold air carries the crispness of apples. Our autumn here is all of the things I dreamed that autumn should be, when I lived in a place where the seasons were subtle.
There were so many things that I didn't do over the summer, but the feeling I have is not disappointment, but dread. I dread the closed windows and feeling of being trapped indoors,if when the weather is wicked. And I have issues with buying new clothes, but I'm pretty sure that I don't have much that will be up to the weather when winter comes. I dread icy rain, and wind that pushed the cold through layers, and getting up in the dark mornings.
It's strange because it doesn't feel like my dread. I love how autumn means pumpkin everything. It has my favorite holiday. The weather inspires baking and doing creative things, from writing to crafting. (Which is great, because I haven't added anything new to the food blog in months!) It's the time to drink tea. It will finally be cool enough to wear the beautiful alpaca wool gloves that
jokersmol gave me.
The appropriate response tonight, I feel, is to bake. I will have pumpkin bread for breakfast and all will be right with the world! (Even though I'm going in to work on a Sunday.)
Random question for the internets: Would you rather share a household with an android (fully mechanical), a cyborg (partly machine, partly flesh) or a clone (fully organic)? Interpret as you will.
