butterflydreaming: "Cris", in blocks with a blinking cat (Default)
I have painted my fingernails and toenails. It was a challenge, to keep my fingernails from getting thrashed before I could get the length I wanted.

Nitrocellulose, or gun cotton was developed in the 19th century. It is highly combustible and even explosive but it creates films which can hold other substances in suspension. It is the basis for most nail polishes.

I put a gold stripe against the metallic shimmer blue, on each big toenail.

Solvents such as toluene and xylene are petroleum-based products that have been linked to cancer.

A few years back, I bought toluene-free nail polish. But, I pretty much stopped using nail polish for its intended use.

So... yeah.
I know better.

They make me happy, nevertheless.
