Acts of Service

I spent pretty much the entire weekend helping
omnifarious and
klicrai and their (lackjournal) housemate move. It wasn't just me. A bunch of useful other friends did the truckloading/driving/unloading on Saturday, and
wolfieboy did a lot of heavy moving yesterday as well as more box transportation today. That said, I know that I did more than operate as an able body. It was good to be useful. Klicrai, who herself did at least 99% of the household packing up prior to moving day, was uber sick with a cold so bad that she was shuddering with chills by the end of Saturday night. They had a very competant friend drive the 16' rental truck.
I got to drive a Honda Element! Flexcar conveniently placed one at the spot close to the old house. They are great cars, perfect for moving Omni's servers and computer monitors with care. We were able to take a good portion of other stuff as well in an early run. Then I was peripherally involved in some stress drama, not my doing but likely incited by my presence. That and the cell phone made for one of the most unpleasant restaurant meals I've ever had. At this point in my life, I have a sheaf of Notes To Self about altercations (many learned from living with
divinityof_fire {smile}), and there was plenty of physical activity during the move, so the drama burned out pretty quickly. Later there were snuggly good feelings and harmony, and drugged up kitties who wanted warm laps.
When it's my turn to move someplace new, it'll be from a small space to a larger one (pleaseGodsoon), and we don't have anything more cumbersome than the TV. That will be a much easier move. Hopefully, there will be fewer stairs involved. My friends' new place is a gorgeous house with a short walk to dowtown Ballard, in a nicer/safer neighborhood that the old one, west facing windows, a nice kitchen, and a yard. I have a twinge of envy.
