Leo Birthday
Jul. 30th, 2006 04:02 pmWe had an impromtu early birthday dinner for
divinityof_fire last night at Mission in the Admiral District. Cafe Flora had been the original choice, but with the Torchlight Parade making things, ah, interesting in downtown, we had to re-think. Her actual birthday is tomorrow.
Mission is like Casuelita's sexier cousin. It's beautiful inside, with lots of seating, big booths downstairs and tables and couches upstairs. (The mezzanine can be rented by big groups!) The drinks -- I had a "Cafe con Leche" (a cocktail made with Patron, coffee liqueur, & Bailey's, but no cream or coffee) and L had a "Dreamsicle" -- were very, very tasty, well balanced, and original. They make a killer flan, and the entrees... oh, heavenly. What a great menu. It's not large, but there were more than a few appealing vegetarian choices, and not the kind where it's the same as a corpse cuisine dish, only w/o meat. We ate so much food: an appetizer of guac and plantain chips (cut longways), grilled steak enchiladas with apricot mole for me (thank you, cow, it was a good end) and a chile relleno with Oaxacan cheese for L. We tried to commit suicide by gluttony with Mission's house made flan and molten chocolate cake (a lava cake, easy on the lava).
Happy hour is 5-7 every day, with $5 house margaritas. Outside of happy hour, the bar & food prices are not bad at all, less than anywhere we've been in Belltown. So... how many of you are coming with me for my next dinner there? The #56 takes us right there from downtown...
Birthday event #2 is the I-District's Night Market ( Aug 1st ) I think I'm going to take a vacation day so that we can do some other things, too. But come on out to the Night Market if you're interested. It's at Hing Hay Park, off of Jackson & 5th-ish, the same place as the little festival where we met up with
amheriksha,
irishninja, and others last summer to watch Taiko drumming.
While L isn't crazy about big groups, I think she would like some kind of celebration. If you'd like to do something for her with me on a Friday or Saturday coming up, email me!
