My mom lives in Hawaii and we have a rocky relationship. Even the time I wanted to move there, she discouraged it (though now she wants me to move in with her and my stepfather to lower their rent). For me, Hawaii has always been a nice place to visit... the first couple of time... but not so great to live.
But you certainly have a greater world view than I do, so you might enjoy it more. :D
