NaNo Checklist
I have Gmail invitations to give out. If you would like a free gmail account, email me at butterflydreaming@gmail.com, using the email address to which you'd like the invitation sent. I like gmail; I've been very pleased with the way it's set up. One weird thing is that it will link up sets of mail from the same source, like lj comments, in a string (a "conversation"). But it's not hard to save just one in the string while trashing the rest.
To my non-NaNoWriMos: I solemnly promise not to abandon you totally during the next month. And when I post, I will keep my NaNo angsting to a minimum. ^_^ I'm depending on my flist to keep mesane functional!
I've ripped off the following checklist from

BASIC STATS:
NaNo ID: butterflydreaming
NaNo since: This is my 1st NaNo
Working title: They're all stupid. I won't tell you. I'm sure I'll get a better one while writing.
WIP Genre: vampire drama
AT THE START: DO YOU...
Have an Outline? no
Scene-by-scene? no
Know how it starts? Yes. I have the first line & first scene in my head.
Know how it ends? I have an ending scene... meaningless to the plot, though.
Have your climax in order? no
Have a particular tone in mind? I want it to be serious, neither dark nor humorous. Social commentary in the way that Saramango's Blindness is, so that it would give the reader things to contemplate beyond the narrative.
Plan to Draw on your own experiences? Yes, quite.
IS YOUR WORK GOING TO BE:
Funny? I can't do funny, unless it's accidental/serendipitous.
Serious? Yup.
Sad? I don't want it to be.
Semi-Autobiographical? No! Okay, just in tiny tiny character bits.
Based on another story? no
Influenced by any authors/current publications? Not directly. If anything, I want it to be nothing like other vampire stories. More like "Metamorphasis" or Breathing Lessons than my beloved Tanya Huff.
HOW HAVE MUCH YOU PLANNED? HAVE YOU USED:
A paper journal? Nyet
Pens? nope
Multicolored pens?no
A computer? no
Index cards?no
Lists? no
Bulleted lists? no
Plot Charts? no
Character Charts? no
Character formulas? no
Favorite writing resource: no
I'm writing this COLD. I have a feeling that it has to be this way for me, this one time.
ODDS AND ENDS
A line you would like to use: Yes, but it's an in-joke. If I can set it up so that the reader is in on it, it's supposed to be my ending line of dialog.
A scene you would like to include: I have 3 strong ones.
A concept you would like to explore: That's the whole point.
A cliche you would like to avoid: That the MCs become romantically involved.
A character you would like to use: I know 3 very well, and 2 or 3 more reasonably well.
FORWARD THINKING
Do you expect to be able to complete it? If I don't believe it, it won't be. So, yes. I can do this.
Do you intend to complete it? Yes. I'm going to give it my best.
Would you ever try to publish it? If it turns out readable, I think I will work on it until it's worth a try. If not, it will still be *mine*.
What do you expect to get out of this month of frantic writing? To say, "I have written, completed, a novel." And then use the experience to write Turning the Key, which has languished.
