Four days off in a row... it's been lovely, though I've been sort-of sick. And I've just spent the last several hours in a coffee shop (not where I work) catching up on my lj friends.

Free wireless here. It's made the reading very pleasant, and it's mostly been quiet here. (Except for the couple who just came in recently and started a loudish conversation with some other person, about their dog. Don't mind the dogs at all, though the health department would. And they smell like dogs frequently do. But people -- people I could do without.) It's a public place, and not the library, so I'm not going to be a grumpy old hag about "people talking".

I haven't written anything (okay, a poem or two) all week, and I can feel it building up in me, kind of like an over-full rain barrel. I'll see what I poke at today, since I've been delivered of the headache and general ache that I've had the last few days. (And the two lattes are going to ensure that it stays away.) I've been lucky enough not to get full-blown sick, and I'm thankful for that.

I'm going to try not thinking about NaNo overmuch. I'm a much better sprinter than distance runner, and my brain works the same way.

Well, I'm going to go home now before my battery runs too low, get some writing in maybe, maybe read some more. Oh, I finished Bitten -- it was excellent. If you like the MC, you'll love this book. I certainly did, even though there was a thread of something that didn't become a plot thread (certain character interactions). A strong "romantic" storyline, though this is not a romance, nor is it exactly a coming of age/coming to terms story. Very multi-layered.

There are several intense sex scenes in Bitten, and they are very, very well done. I wouldn't call them gratuitous. They build, and the story would be lessened in several aspects if they were cut. Each one is different, and character-driven (despite being the same couple each time), and plot enhancing, and tasteful. (To me, at least.) The chemistry between the characters is realistic.

Overall, I'm really pleased with Armstrong's writing style. I had trouble putting the book down, and I didn't guess ahead of the plot, skim, or find myself daydreaming.

Your cut code didn't work, doll. (faulty leading character, I believe).

I've been working on my October to-do list (item 1: Get the house to a state where I can maintain its cleanliness with minimal daily effort and item 2: write character sheets for nano novel) this weekend. Sorry you've been sick. I hate that. Remember to get lots of sleep so you don't get sick in November!
